Lara Prior Palmer was born in London in 1994. She studied conceptual history and Persian at Stanford University. In 2013, she competed in the 1,000-kilometer Mongol Derby in Mongolia, sometimes described as the world’s toughest and longest horse race, and became the first woman to win the race, and the youngest person ever to finish. Rough Magic is her first book.
Joining Lara in conversation for this event is Caton Brader. Granddaughter of Hall of Fame jockey Ted Atkinson, Caton is an award-winning journalist with nearly 30 years experience in print, radio and television. A native of the Chicago area, she grew up in Palatine and graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, IL where she majored in English Writing. She is currently an on air personality for TVG, the Horse Racing network.
