Richard Carl Laymon was an American author of suspense and horror fiction, particularly within the splatterpunk subgenre.

Drawing from more than thirty years of experience in the emergency management field, Lamon compiled some of his favorite memories for his book of short stories. Like some of the calls at the dispatch, the reader never knows what to expect with each turn of the page. Rick's favorite story is called, "Possum Police" about the night the on-duty police officers were bored and decided to catch a live opossum and throw it into an open window, landing in Rick's lap.
