Description

In his 'De anima et resurrectione', the church father Gregory of Nyssa (4th century A.D.) presents the Christian doctrine of resurrection. His argument is based on the ancient understanding of the soul. Gregory continues, both in form (dialogue) and in content (teaching on the immortality of the soul), the philosophical tradition, especially in its Platonic shape. But he develops it further by seeking a logical foundation for the Christian doctrine of the resurrection of the body including apokatastasis. This Greek text presents a first critical edition based on all the available manuscripts (72). It is, in method as well as in its presentation, part of the famous edition Gregorii Nysseni Opera, going back to Werner Jaeger and Hermann Langerbeck.
