We welcome Russian teacher, scholar and translator Anne Fisher for a reading and discussion of her new translation of the famous Russian satiric novel, The Little Golden Calf. This new edition is the first unabridged and uncensored English translation of the novel that has been called one of the greatest works of Russian satire of the 20th century. First published in 1928, The Little Golden Calf offers a portrait of Russian life that is as funny and true today as it was when it first appeared. Anne Fisher's translation of Ilf & Petrov's American Road Trip was shortlisted for the Rossica Prize for excellence in literary translation.

Contributors reading at Carmichael's include Lynnell Edwards, Jane Gentry, Sarah Gorham, Leatha Kendrick, Jeffrey Skinner, Philip St. Clair, Joe Survant, and Jeff Worley. Join us for what promises to be a diverse and entertaining event with some of Kentucky's best home-grown talent.

Please join us for a talk and book signing with Father Clyde Crews for his new book, Crossings: Historical Journeys Near Louisville's Merton Square. In this lavishly illustrated and carefully researched book, Bellarmine professor emeritus and historian Clyde Crews recounts compelling stories that have occurred within the 40 blocks that form a rectangle around Merton Square, the site of Thomas Merton's famous 1958 epiphany that gave his writings and work a greater emphasis on human rights, social justice and inter-religious understanding.

We are hosting an event with authors Bob Hill and Jim Tomlinson that will be part reading, part reunion, and plenty of fun. Longtime Courier-Journal columnist and author Bob Hill and award-winning Berea writer Jim Tomlinson will discuss their work and the unlikely paths that led to two high school classmates from a small town in Illinois into writing careers that would converge in Kentucky decades later.

We are thrilled to host British author Chris Cleave to read from and discuss his fabulous novel, Little Bee. We welcome author Stuart Warner and legendary basketball coach Jock Sutherland for a talk and book signing for Jock: A Coach's Story. The book recounts the life of Jock Sutherland, one of the most successful and respected coaches in Kentucky high school basketball history. Jock took teams from three different schools to Kentucky's Sweet Sixteen. When he retired from coaching in 1979 after his Lafayette team won the state tournament, he became a color commentator for WHAS University of Louisville basketball games. Please join us to honor this Kentucky basketball legend.
