Carmichael's and Motes Books present a reading by contributors to the new book World Premieres from Horse Cave Theatre: Plays by Kentucky Writers. Liz Bussey Fentress, Tony Dingman, Heather Burns, Kate Larken and Fred and Jim T. Miller will each read a selection from the Kentucky Voices series of plays collected in this comprehensive and heavily annotated volume, each of which had its world premiere at Kentucky's own Horse Cave Theatre.

Join us for a poetry reading featuring Martha Greenwald, here to discuss her debut book of poems, Other Prohibited Items. Greenwald teaches creative writing at the University of Louisville, and her poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. She is a recipient of the 2010 Mississippi Review Poetry Series award, and was the winner of the Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize in 2008. Other Prohibited Items is marked by sonic delight in words and their combinations, and Greenwald's diction and meter are as impeccable as her sharp eye for detail.

We welcome book club favorite Sarah Addison Allen for a reading from her newest novel, The Girl Who Chased the Moon. Sarah is the author of the New York Times bestseller Garden Spells and The Sugar Queen. Like her previous books, The Girl Who Chased the Moon is filled with humor, warmth, Southern charm, and just a touch of magic, a combination she dubs "Southern-fried magical realism." Sarah's books have been very popular with book clubs, and we encourage book club leaders to contact us about meeting with her before or after this event.

Writer Robin Stone, widow of Gerald Boyd, the first black managing editor of the New York Times will discuss her late husband's memoir My Times in Black and White: Race and Power at the New York Times.

Berea author Keven McQueen will discuss and sign copies of his new book The Great Louisville Tornado of 1890. The book chronicles the story of Louisville's most violent natural disaster with the help of photographs from the University of Louisville archives.

We will host a reading and book signing with Jerry Gabriel, author of Drowned Boy, a collection of short stories about growing up in rural Ohio. His book is published by Louisville's own Sarabande Books.

We are pleased to host a reading and book signing with Ann Hood, author of The Red Thread (due for publication in May). Jodi Picoult called The Red Thread "a tapestry of the complicated ties between mothers & children; an invitation to journey through the grief and joy of adoptions." Hood's previous works include The Knitting Circle, Comfort, and An Ornithologist's Guide to Life.
